High-Temperature Wrinkle Paint Spray in Maserati Red and Ferrari Red

High-temperature wrinkle paint for the original restoration of sports car engines such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Harley Davidson, Lancia Stratos, Delta HF Integrale, Escort Cosworth.

This high-temperature wrinkle paint is also used for design and decorative objects, such as Nikon camera lenses and furniture items, thanks to its incredible resistance to scratches, temperature, and abrasions.

Once cured, it is more resistant than catalyzed paint. However, it is crucial to follow the instructions provided in the technical data sheet to achieve these results.

To correctly use and apply this product on engines, it is mandatory to use our high-temperature primers. For other applications in the design and architecture sectors, we recommend reading the technical data sheet and contacting our office.

It is worth noting that the only difference between the liquid version and the spray can version lies in the fact that the spray version struggles with larger components, such as some engine heads and design objects, because the spray cannot evenly coat large surfaces. Therefore, for professional work, we recommend using the liquid version applied with body shop spray guns.

For this purpose, please consult the technical data sheet for all application details.

PREPARATION OF METAL OR ALLOY PARTS

The parts should:

  • Be sandblasted if necessary, and if sandblasted, must be painted with a primer within 2 hours. Do not handle with bare hands—use gloves. Degrease and clean using our aviation-grade silicone remover.
  • Be thoroughly cleaned and blown with compressed air.
  • Be cleaned of old paint or rust residues with sandpaper if not sandblasted.
  • Be prepared using one of our specific primers, available in spray or catalyzed liquid form.

PREPARATION OF PLASTIC PARTS

Plastic parts should:

  • Be cleaned with antistatic degreasers such as our universal silicone remover.
  • Be cleaned of any old or residual paint.
  • Be prepared with our plastic adhesion promoter.

APPLICATION OF THE WRINKLE PAINT

These rules apply to both the spray version and the professional liquid version.

If using the spray, simply shake it and start applying. For the liquid version, shake the can for a few seconds and pour it into a spray gun with a 1.3 or 1.4 nozzle, ensuring to filter it with automotive paint strainers. Avoid using larger nozzles like 1.7 or 1.8.

  1. After applying one or two coats of primer, wait one hour for it to dry thoroughly.
  2. Start by applying a light adhesion coat and wait 10 minutes, regardless of the season.
  3. Apply the first full coat. A full coat should make the surface appear shiny and wet in all areas. Push to the limit of dripping to ensure proper function. Wait 10 minutes (15 in winter).
  4. Apply a second full coat and wait 10 or 15 minutes.
  5. Apply a third full coat and wait 20 to 30 minutes.

Now begin the curing process.

CURING AND WRINKLING

Premise

Wrinkle paint fully dries in 20 days regardless of curing; in winter, it can take up to 30 days. To speed up the process, it can be oven-dried for three hours at 50/60°C. However, extended exposure to heat can alter the wrinkle pattern.

CURING METHODS

Small Oven

If you have an old household oven, set it to ventilated or static mode for one hour at 80°C. Let it cool for 12 hours before handling, and allow at least one week before assembling.

Heat Gun

Use a heat gun to evenly heat the parts. Be cautious, as uneven heating may cause inconsistent wrinkling. This method works best for small objects.

Infrared

Infrared lamps are ideal for curing this paint. Heat the parts under the lamps until wrinkling is complete. Turn off the lamps and allow 1 week for curing before assembly and 12 hours before handling.

NOTE: Wrinkle paint behaves predictably only if all instructions are followed. Kustom Service cannot take responsibility for improper application or curing results.

REASSEMBLY AND FUEL RESISTANCE

To ensure maximum resistance, allow 30 days of air drying or 15 days with oven/infrared curing.

AESTHETIC FEATURES

Wrinkle paint has a unique textured appearance, similar to corduroy. The wrinkle size depends on the number of coats applied.

RESISTANCE

Once cured, it is more durable than catalyzed paint, even though it is a single-component product.
